I am an engineer based in Auckland who loves learning about the world and applying this knowledge to solve problems. I spend most of my free time with friends practicing my Christian faith or heading outdoors on an adventure, but this website aims to capture some of the more technical projects I’ve taken on over the years.
That being said, you’re on the “about” page and not on one of the project pages, so I take that to mean you want to know a bit more about me!
Born just outside of Vancouver, Canada, I had a reasonably uneventful childhood mainly driven by a deep love of reading and exploration. Some core memories for me are reading through Calvin & Hobbes treasuries and going on hikes during our family’s yearly vacations to Whistler. Music and sports were also a big part of my life throughout school, and I juggled playing competitively on school basketball teams (we got fifth in the province one year!) while playing alto saxophone in concert band and singing in choir. Ultimately, my passion for math and sciences pushed me to study engineering at the University of Victoria (UVic) on Vancouver Island after graduating high school.
The move to the island brought independence and growth as I studied mechanical engineering there. I also managed to get really into mountain biking with the UVic cycling club which led to a dream job interning with Rocky Mountain Bicycles. However, it was in third year when I decided to join UVic Rocketry (UVR) that really ended up shaping my future. Many of the projects on this site stem from my time at UVR, and I attribute the work I did with the UVR team for helping me to land an internship with Airbus in Toulouse, France and eventually my current job at Rocket Lab in New Zealand.
The past few years have seen me settle into life in NZ, getting out around the country to surf, hike, mountain bike, and ski all of that world-class nature. Professionally, I had the unbelievable experience of being one of the primary test engineers on the novel high-performance Hyper Curie engine that powered NASA’s CAPSTONE mission to the moon, and have followed that up with being a core member of the fluids design and test team for the upcoming ESCAPADE mission to Mars. However, what continues to motivate and drive me is my faith in Jesus and desire to follow His teachings. I hope to better live this faith out in my personal and professional life through engagement with meaningful work and community involvement.
